I haven’t been blogging, and think I want to start back up. I don’t have a post ready today, but just noticed that I first posted about Google App Engine on July 30, 2008. That’s ten years to the day before I started working at Google, as a Developer Programs Engineer for Google Cloud Platform. Including, yes, App Engine!
I am late to the party and just started watching Hall and Catch Fire. I caught your call sign in an episode in the second season. How did they decide to use your call? Did you work on the show? I remember so much about the early days of computing because I used to report on it for Business Week, Communications Daily, Info Week and a ton more publications. I recall doing a story about the first cellular phones in Chicago and then in Washington DC where I worked. I walked down the street with the first Motorola bricks, testing it out for a story, and people gave me weird looks.

I have no idea why they made up a call sign that matched mine. It must have been someone who knew a bit about callsigns, since it’s in valid form, but not enough to know someone from Texas would have 5 instead of 4 in it!
